Mike is all about discovering new music, and there is no better place to do that than in Music City. In Nashville, live music can be heard in every single honky-tonk, restaurant, and even out at the airport! Mike first heard the fellas of the blues-based hard rock band, BISHOP GUNN, at a small venue in the very historic and quaint neighborhood of Leiper’s Fork, just outside Nashville. As the Natchez, Mississippi band prepares for their year ahead, releasing an album, and getting ready to go on their first tour, they want you to know, that they are finding their route in the history of American music, one chord at a time.

“BISHOP GUNN also strives to keep as vintage of a feel as possible,” said drummer Burne Sharp. “From our clothes to equipment and so on! We are trying to bring real, soulful, non processed music back to the forefront of the industry. We are constantly digging into music history and culture to find the next idea and merging that with how we feel we can best deliver it. All of us were raised with a great sense of music from our parents and instilled with those qualities of music and history. We know that Rock n’ Roll isn’t dead just needs to be revitalized, and that is ultimately our mission.”

The Natchez, Mississippi men on this musical mission are: lead guitarist Hudson Laird, drummer Burne Sharp, vocalist Travis McCready, and bass player Daniel Scott. If you can believe it, the America rock n’ roll band formed as the result of a studio project in the summer in 2014! The name is a hybrid mashup from the tombstone of John Edward Gunn and his title as Bishop of Natchez. Combine the two and you’ll get BISHOP GUNN.

Before you even hear the vocalist Travis McCready, rock out, you’ll find yourself taking a second look at the band’s vintage vibe and style.

Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock, has come to also incorporate elements of folk, and rhythm And they feel it is their collective responsibility to build a community of musicians around them.

“We feel it’s important for the whole area to be uplifted and create a cultural movement for music. We are in the heart of the birthplace of music and it’s our responsibility to keep the traditions and history alive heading into the future.”

Right now, BISHOP GUNN is excited about their debut album they recorded, in Tennessee, and spreading the word about the Americana Music Triangle.

“The AMT is such an amazing tool for finding your own route through the history of American music. A great deal of research was put into the triangle and we want to do what we can to be ambassadors of the movement if you will!”

If you are looking to catch the guys, they’re currently touring the United States. You can always catch their music on BISHOPGUNN.COM.  Their first tour is on the Americana Music Triangle, which stretches from Nashville, Tennessee to New Orleans, Louisiana, and the surrounding areas.

Bands like this are sorely missed, The music establishment has been shoving processed, over hyped, and very untalented junk,
down our throats for 20 years, Great find Mike!! Keep Riding and Rockin!!

Hey,guys I just listened to your new track and I think your lead singer is GREAT, blowing the vocals wide open with lots of energy aka John Lennon.Unfortunatly the group needs to listen to ALOT more 50’s and 60’s Rock. There not studio or concert ready.Maybe in 5 yr’s or so…Sorry guy’s.Ive been directly involved in over 4,000 recording sessions in Hollywood,Ca in the 60’s as a singer/producer/A&R VP. You can find one of the band’s that I co/founded with Steve Hoffman at: The Mystic Astrologic Crystal Band.com and about 24 other sites. Also at: Ron Roman/Frank Zappa.com Your sound isn’t happening for me…but your lead singer kicks ass! He should go out on his own! Hit record vocals for sure! Rock N Roll, Ron Roman.

you should go check out bishopgunn.com & on youtube & listen to more of their songs to better understand them before you jump to any conclussions from one song. And by the way, they have already headlined a festival for 10,000 people. Have a nice day!!

I’ve been playing this kind of music since the 60’s. The groove is the important thing. They have it. Everyone should improve with time. Your critique is your personal opinion, and doesn’t mean anything to anybody but you. I hope if they read it, they dismiss it as just that. By the way, I hear much more Leslie West in the vocals, than John Lennon.

Great to see this bright new talent come along. This stop at the WYTJ made me think of Sam Philpps and his Sun Records Studio when Elvis was getting his start. There is a definite John Fogerty style and sound here.
