Lake Township Historical Society located in Northern Stark County, Ohio presents a summer Kid Pickers program. It will take place on June 23, 24, 25, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. As curator, I have been collecting for 30 yrs. not only will I share my experience but will be using the Kid Pickers book. We can only handle 20 kids and each will get a book. The three days program will be: Day 1 – Introducing “picking” and what too look for. The last hour we will show a recent “American Pickers” History Channel show – CD. They will have an assignment to hunt, pick, bargain for an item and give a report the next day. Day 2 – I will have items from our archive. Kids will give their report. Day 3 – A tour of Lake Township largest flea market to do some picking. Back at the schoolhouse we will talk about our findings.

I would like to present each kid with a “goodie bag”. Any ideas?

Hi Steven! We have been thinking about it and here’s what we came up with:
      -little journal
      -ink pen
      -diy business card
-sturdy bag to hold your picks
-“Official Picker brochure”—list places that are good to pick (kid friendly version); grandma/grandpa’s house, thrift stores–such as goodwill, yard sales, antique stores, flea markets. A list of possible good picks to look for; old license plates, old toys, etc. Also include Picker safety rules; make sure you have an adult around to help out, don’t trespass or go onto other people’s property without their permission, etc.

      What do you think?
